Endoscopic thyroidectomy with novel retractor in rabbits

Abstract：Objective To introduce and verify a novel surgical instruments which has been patented by the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC.Methods Thirty female New Zealand white rabbits were divided into two experi -mental groups.The interleukin -6 (IL -6) and C -reactive protein (CRP) levels were measured preoperatively and on the 1st , 3rd and 7th day after operation.Statistical comparison between the 2 groups was performed using analysis of paired t test.Results This instrument enabled effortless change in positions and facilitated manipulation of the thyroid gland while protecting the adjacent carotid artery in operation .There was no statistically significant difference in IL -6 or CRP between the conventional thyroidectomy group and endoscopic thyroidectomy group .Conclusion The new instrument provides feasi-bility and safety of the endoscopic thyroidectomy in animal experiments .
