Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of ethanol ( EtOH) on the chloride channels in pancreatic acinar cells. Methods Whole -cell chloride currents were detected using the patch clamp technique .Results A weak and stablebackground chloride current was recorded under isotonic conditions .Extracellular perfusion with EtOH by 500 μmol/Linduced a strong outward -rectified current. There was no obvious voltage -and time -dependent inactivation in the appliedvoltages. In addition, both extracellular applications of 47% hypertonic solution and the chloride channel blockerNPPB (100 μmol/L) inhibited the current induced by EtOH.Conclusion Ethanol can activate the chloride channels inpancreatic acinar cells, which is suggested inducing acute alcoholic pancreatitis.
