Risk factors predictive of outcome of stereotactic amygdalohippocampotomy for the treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy
Abstract:Objective To investigate risk factors which predict the outcome of stereotactic amygdalohippocampotomy for the treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods The outcome of stereotactic amygdalohippocampotomy was assessed in 33 temporal lobe epilepsy patients. The history of febril seizure, aura, seizure frequency and age of onset of epilepsy, duration of epilepsy and age at surgery were compared with patients's outcomes. Results The mean age at surgery, duration of epilepsy, age of onset of epilepsy incidence of aura, and frequent seizures did not differ significantly between the two groups. But there was significant difference between patients with and without history of febril seizure. Conclusions The history of febril seizure is the risk factor which predicts outcome of stereotactic amygdalohippocampotomy for the treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy.
