Abstract:Objective To study the effects of mifepristone on the cerebral ultrastructure of trimester pregnant rats. Methods 10 pregnant rats were divided into an experimental group (n=5) and a control group (n=5) randomly. At the 20th day of gestation, the experimental rats were given 1ml of sesame oil and (11.5±1) mg of mifespristone, while the control rats were given sesame oil only. After labour, the cortical tissues of the right parieto-cerebrum were taken for TEM observation. Results Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed following morphological changes: ① Neuron swelled and membranous cytoplosmic organellae decreased; ② Dendrites and axons were partially damaged and major dense lines of myelin sheath were seperated; ③ Synaptic connections decreased and interstitiums swelled; ④ Neurogliocytes also swelled. Mitochonidria in capillary epithelial cells puffed and the extracellular matrixes of capillaries widened. Conclusion Mifespristone induces ischemia-hypoxia changes in cerebrums of female rats.
