Study of serum nitric oxide in early spontaneous abortion
Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between serum nitric oxide (NO) level and spontaneous abortion. Methods Serum NO was determined by Griess reation in 25 cases of nonpregnancy, 25 normal trimester and 25 spontaneous abortion. Results Serum NO in early pregnancy is higher than that of nonpregnancy ( P < 0.01 ). Serum NO in Spontaneous abortion is significantly higher than that of normal trimester (P<0.01). Conclusion Serum NO level increases during pregnancy to maintain the placental barrier funtion and maintain the quiescence of pregnant uterus. Abnormal elevation in serum NO level in the early pregnancy, is cytotoxic and arrests the cell growing, which may leading to spontsneous abortion. Administration of NO synthase inhibifor can avoid the occurence of abortion. On the contrary NO donor may help to terminate of pregnancy in the first trimester.
