Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the effects of compound nutritional health sand on slaughter performance, meat quality, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, intestinal morphology, and intestinal enzyme activity in pigeons. For this experiment,96 pairs of Mimas pigeons with similar age, weight, and reproductive performance were selected pigeons. They were randomly divided into two treatment groups. Each group contained 8 replicates, each replicate consisting of 6 pairs of pigeons, and each pair of pigeons rearing 4 squabs. The control group was fed with basic health sand, while the experimental group was fed with compound nutritional health sand. The experimental period was 45 days(17 days of hatching,21 days of lactation, and 7 days of rest). The results showed the following:Compared with the control group, the crypt depth of the jejunum in the squabs of the experimental group exhibited significantly reduced, and the villus-to-crypt ratio was significantly increased(P<0.05),while there were no significant changes in the villus height, muscle layer thickness, and villus width of the jejunum(P>0.05).Compared with the control group, the content of plasma albumin(Alb,Albumin)in the squabs of the experimental group was significantly increased(P<0.05),and there were no significant changes in the content of plasma glucose(Glucose,GLU),urea nitrogen(Urea nitrogen,BUN),total protein(Total Protein,TP),uric acid(Uric acid,UA),total cholesterol(Total Cholesterol,T-CHO),and triglycerides(Total Triglyceride,TG)(P>0.05).Compared with the control group, the activity of amylase(Amylase,AMY)and total superoxide dismutase(Total Super Oxide Dismutase,T-SOD)in the jejunum of the squabs of the experimental group was significantly increased(P<0.01),while there were no significant changes in the activity of total antioxidant capacity(Total anti-oxidant status,T-AOC),chymotrypsin(Chymotrypsin,Chy),maltase(Maltase,MDH),catalase(Catalase,CAT),and the content of malondialdehyde(Malonaldehyde,MDA)and hydrogen peroxide(Hydrogen peroxide,H2O2)(P<0.05).In conclusion, compound nutritional health sand promotes the development of the intestinal tract in pigeons, enhances intestinal health, and holds potential application value in production.
