Abstract:This study aims to determine the prevalence of Eimeria species on broiler farms in northern Guangdong. The study was conducted on 16 broiler chicken farms from Qingyuan,Shaoguan,Heyuan and Meizhou,in Guangdong province.87 fecal samples were collected. An overall prevalence of 90.80%Eimeria species infection was determined by PCR.The prevalence rate of coccidia in Qingyuan,Shaoguan,Heyuan and Meizhou were 88.24%,90.0%,100%,and 50.0%,respectively.E.mitis(45.98%),E.necatrix(43.67%),E.acervulina(26.43%),and E.tenella(22.98%)were the most prevalent species.Single-species infections were common in northern Guangdong(41.38%),followed by two species and three species mixed infection. The results of this study revealed that Eimeria spp.is a widely spreading protozoa parasite in chickens in northern Guangdong. Moreover, the high pathogenic species E.necatrix and E.tenella were the predominant Eimeria species. The results of the present study will help to develop improvement strategies for the control and prevention of avian coccidiosis on broiler chicken farms.
