Effects of Dietary Carbohydrates on Feline Gut Bacteria and cat Health

Abstract：Cats have become popular companion animals in recent years.Research on the diet formulation and digestibility in cats has become a hot topic.Carbohydrates are widely used in commercial cat foods,while cats do not seem to have an absolute need for them.Currently,there is still some controversy about the significance of carbohydrates in cat diets.This review summarizes the mechanism of digestion and metabolism of carbohydrates in cats comprehensively.And the relationship between dietarycarbohydrate intake and diseases and the effects of carbohydrates on intestinal health and gut microbiome were also discussed here,with a view to provide theoretical basis and reference for the development ofcat diets,and disease treatments.
