Abstract:To improve the heavy rainfall forecasting technology in Guangzhou, daily precipitation data from national and regional automatic weather stations in Guangzhou from April to September during 2010-2019 were utilized to statistically analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of rainfall during rainstorm e-vents by month and type.An intelligent grid correction technology for heavy rainfall was developed based on climate statistical analysis, categorized by month and type. This correction technology can quantitatively modify the subjective 24-hour grid forecast products for heavy rainfall processes in Guangzhou, including the easterly return flow type in April and May,the southerly warm-sector type in April and May,and the shear-line type in June. The technology has been integrated into the intelligent grid forecasting platform GIFT as a smart correction toolbox for operational application.Case validation and evaluation analyses indicate that this technology has a certain correction capability, with increased TS scores for rainstorms and heavy rain-storms after correction, significantly improving the forecasting accuracy of heavy rainfall. The findings of this study provide a valuable tool for enhancing the precision of heavy rainfall forecasts in Guangzhou, offering significant scientific and practical implications for disaster prevention and mitigation in the region.
