Abstract:To provide a reference for refined forecasting and warning of heavy rainfall, hourly precipita-tion data from 43 automatic weather stations in Yangjiang City from 2010 to 2022 were used to study the dis-tribution characteristics of short-duration heavy rainfall under different weather types. The results show that:(1)The frequency of short-duration heavy rainfall is significantly higher in the central and southern regions than in the northern region, with the highest occurrence in May.The number of station occurrences is nota-bly greater in the annually first rainy season than in the second one.(2)The upper-level trough and shear line type accounts for the most short-duration heavy rainfall events, while the low-level jet stream type has the highest number of station occurrences.Short-duration heavy rainfall associated with the upper-level trough and shear line type and the low-level jet stream type is most likely to occur in May,the monsoon type in June, and tropical system type mainly in August.(3)The spatiotemporal distribution of short-duration heavy rainfall varies significantly under different weather types and is notably influenced by topography. This study enhances the understanding of regional extreme rainfall mechanisms and provides scientific support for disaster prevention and mitigation.
