Abstract:Based on conventional meteorological observation data,Doppler weather radar data and ERA5 reanalysis data, the cause of an extreme heavy rainfall on the night of August 3,2022 was analyzed. The results are shown as follows. On August 3,the Subtropical High moved northward significantly, and an 850hPa warm tongue extended eastward to the western part of Liaoning. The water in Qinghe and Chaihe res-ervoirs on the west side of Bakeshu and Shangfei villages kept evaporating, which brought abundant water va-por to the extreme heavy rainfall. The westerly flow was lifted by the north-south-running remnant of the Changbai Mountains, which caused the thunderstorm.East winds and outflows of the cold pool caused the thunderstorm to propagate backward.Nighttime mountain winds converged strongly with the east winds from the cold pool and its surroundings and the west winds formed by the funnelling effect, bringing heavy rainfall to the Bakeshu station. The east and west winds were equal in force, and the mountains on the west side of the Shangfei station blocked the thunderstorm, making the thunderstorm stay over the Shangfei station for ex-tended time.It was an important cause of the local extreme heavy rainfall.
