Abstract:To understand the sources of water vapor during a heavy rainstorm in Qingyuan,an analysis of water vapor flux and water vapor budget was conducted based on precipitation observation data and ERA5 reanalysis data for the heavy rainstorm that occurred in southern Qingyuan from May 10 to 12,2022.The Lagrangian Hybrid Single-Particle Trajectory Model(HYSPLIT4)was introduced to quantitatively analyze the sources of water vapor during the rainstorm and the quantitative contributions of each water vapor source region. The results are shown as follows.(1)This heavy rainstorm event was caused by the combined effects of an upper-level trough,a low vortex shear, and a low-level jet stream.(2)Backward tracking over 216 hours revealed that the primary sources of water vapor for the rainstorm were the Arabian Sea-western In-dian Peninsula, the eastern Indian Peninsula-Bay of Bengal, and the region south of the rainstorm area to the South China Sea and surrounding waters, with water vapor contribution rates of 38%,28.1%,and 24.5%,respectively.(3)The 700 hPa level was the main layer for water vapor transport, contributing 50%of the water vapor to the rainstorm area.
