Abstract:This article uses hourly precipitation data from intensively located meteorological monitoring stations in Qingyuan area from 2011 to 2022 to analyze the fine-scale spatial and temporal distribution char-acteristics of extreme short-term heavy precipitation in Qingyuan City. The results show that in the past 12 years, the frequency of extreme short-term heavy precipitation in Qingyuan City generally shows a"higher in the south and lower in the north"spatial pattern, with four high-frequency centers. Its occurrence displays distinct seasonality, with a monthly frequency distribution characterized by a"double-peak"pattern.The pri-mary peak occurs in May and June, while a secondary peak is observed in August.Temporally, extreme short-term heavy precipitation events are most likely to occur during two periods:from afternoon to evening, and in the early morning hours.Furthermore, the study highlights a strong correlation between the occurrence of ex-treme short-term heavy rainfall and topographical features in Qingyuan City. These events frequently occur on windward slopes and in valley terrains, with the maximum rainfall intensity typically generated by the wind-ward slope topography of trumpet-shaped valleys.
