Analysis of the Characteristics of Preferred Cores of Frequent,Extreme Short-range Intense Rains in Maoming Area

Abstract：Using the rainfall observations from 93 regional automatic weather stations in Maoming,this paper identified and determined the preferred cores that frequently received extreme short-range intense rains in the area,and analyzed the rainfall characteristics in terms of the amount and frequency.The results are shown as follows.(1)Magui,Beijie and Luokeng were such rain cores in Maoming where extreme short-range intense rains took place most frequently.(2)For Luokeng,there was significant positive correlation between the annual rain amount and the annual frequency of extreme short-range intense rains;for Beijie and Luokeng,there was significant positive correlation between the monthly rain amount and the monthly fre-quency of extreme short-range intense rains.(3)For Magui,the extreme short-range intense rain mainly took place in the late period of the rainy season;for Beijie and Luokeng,it mainly happened in the early pe-riod.(4)For all of the three rain cores of Maoming,it was more likely for the extreme short-range intense rain to occur during the day than at night.
