Abstract:Using conventional meteorological data,NCEP reanalysis and ERA5 from ECMWF,this work analyzes the environmental conditions of a severe rainfall in Nanhai,Foshan that happened after midday on July 2,20022 and lasted until the following morning. The results are shown as follows.Connected with an extensive monsoon zone and under the effect of a low-level jet stream, the spiral rainband of Typhoon Chaba provided sufficient amount of water vapor and energy for the severe rain of interest, which was charac-terized by such favorable dynamics as intense and well-extended vertical updrafts and well-allocated conver-gent and divergent airflow fields at the upper-and low-levels.This severe rain took place under the condi-tions of sufficient low-level unstable energy and convectively unstable mid-and low-levels beneath 500 hPa,and the water vapor and instability energy transported by the low-level jet stream maintained the severe rain with favorable conditions of temperature and humidity.
