A Study on the Relationship between Fog and Rainfall over South China

Abstract：The factors influencing fog (visibility) over South China are investigated, with special emphasis on the relationship between fog and precipitation.It is pointed out that, the type and process, as well as the forming condition and mechanism of fog may be different for cases with or without precipitation.There exists important difference between light and dense fogs in forming conditions and mechanism,in addition to the degree of severity.Finally, a MOS method for fog (visibility) prediction based on mesoscale numerical model is established,according to the above analysis. Verification shows that it's feasible to make temporally and spatially detailed prediction of fog (visibility) using this kind of method.
