Abstract：By Using Visual Basic 5.0 programming platform, We designed a historical information retrieval system for heavy rain and severe convective weather phenomena. This system provides a convenient way to retrieve synoptic situations related to some special types of heavy rains and severe convective weather phenomena as well as the data of these weather events. In addiction, the system is able to offer comparisons between realtime and historical synoptic charts, thus is very helpful for weather forecasting.
