Abstract:Erythropoietin(EPO),a critical endogenous glycoprotein hormone,is widely used in the treatment of anemia. In recent years, studies have revealed that EPO not only plays a role in erythropoiesis but also exerts various other biological functions.Pharmacological research indicates that EPO has potential effects in protecting neurons and cardiomyocytes, alleviating inflammation, and maintaining intestinal barrier integrity.Furthermore, clinical researches on EPO's protective roles in renal, neurological, and cardiovascular health have been increasing. These studies highlight EPO's pharmacological actions beyond erythropoiesis and its progress in disease treatment, providing theoretical support and insights for its clinical application in diverse diseases.
