Abstract:Objective To investigate the diagnostic significance of DNA ploidy of ascites exfoliated cells in the diagnosis of benign and malignant ascites.Method 54 cases of benign ascites and 63 cases of malignant ascites were analyzed to determine the DNA content and ploidy analysis by Feulgen staining and ICM method. All cases were diagnostic criteria by cytological pathological examination of ascites exfoliative cytology, gastrointestinal histopathology or surgical pathology. Results Positive rate of DNA ploidy analysis in malignant ascites (84.13%) was significantly higher than in benign ascites (14.81%). DNA ploidy analysis of malignant ascites sensitivity was 84.13% , specificity was 85.19% , misdiagnosis rate was 15.87% , misdiagnosis rate was 14.81% , positive predictive value was 86.89% , and negative predictive value was 82.14% . Compared with malignant ascites exfoliative cytopathology, DNA ploidy detection has high sensitivity and low misdiagnosis rate. Conclusion Ascites exfoliated cells DNA ploidy in the diagnosis of benign and malignant ascites has a certain value, and provide guidance for the clinical.
