Research on the mechanism of material erosion of electrical discharge machining of polycrystalline diamonds

Abstract：In this paper, experiments of single pulse electrical discharge were carried out on the experimental setup made by ourselves, and appearance of the crater was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM)in the experiments. The results show that, the shedding of diamond particles caused by melting or vaporization of metal binder is the main form of material erosion in the EDM of polycrystalline diamonds, diamond particles will be removed due to a sharp increase in the temperature crack formation. In addition, diamond around the crater may be graphitized.
