Abstract:Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effects of Yu Jie Ling on mice with ulcerative colitis. Methods:Forty male C57BL/C mice were randomly divided into four groups: normal control group, UC model group, Sulfasalazine (SASP) group and Yu Jie Ling (YJL) group. The normal control was drinking distilled water freely, while the other groups were administrated 5%dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)solution as drinking water freely for 8 days to induce acute ulcerative colitis. At the same time the mice were given oral YJL (in the model or control groups), SASP in SASP group. The general morphological and histopathological changes were observed during the experiment. Daily disease activity index (DAI) was evaluated. Nuclear factor (NF-κB) of colonic expression was detected by Western blotting. Results:The histopathological changes in YJL group had great amelioration, compared with model group. The DAI decreased significantly, and the expression of NF-κB in colon was all obviously reduced. Conclusion:Yu Jie Ling can effectively attenuate DSS-induced ulcerative colitis through the decrease of the expression of NF-κB.
