Goodman's philosophical reshaping

Abstract：Goodman advocated that symbols construct the world,and art,science,philosophy are the multiple ways of constructing the world.He employed his general theory of symbols to reshape traditional epistemology into an"epistemology of understanding",and transformed traditional ontology into an"irrealism"of multiple symbolically constructed worlds.Goodman's reconception of philosophy represents a natural theoretical tendency of analytic philosophy in the"linguistic turn"trend.There is a view that Goodman's"irrealism"cannot support his claim of constructing the world.This stems from a misunderstanding of Goodman's theory of symbols.Saussure's semiotic can provide a defense for Goodman's idea of symbolically constructing the world.The rejection of the labeling way of classifying things is a consensus in the semiotic thoughts of both Saussure and Goodman.In Goodman's view,the world is the product of relations and the result of the distinction and classification by the symbol system.The world is constantly reconstructed in the self-renewal of the symbol system.
