Abstract:Foshan brass-chisel paper-cutting is a distinctive form of folk arts and crafts. The period from the Qing dynasty to the Republic of China marked its peak of development.During this time,brass-chisel paper-cuts displayed rich typologies;in craftsmanship, they excelled in the techniques of"chiseling"and"writing/inscribing";in artistic expression, they pursued visually full compositions, vivid, and saturated colors;and they were widely used in the packaging of commodities such as firecrackers and tea.Numerous workshops producing brass-chisel paper-cuts operated in the Foshan area, and their products not only met local market demand but were also exported to Macau and overseas, forming an industry of considerable scale.
