Abstract:With the support of metaverse technology, virtual digital humans have significantly changed the paradigm of human memory, shifting memory from forgetting to retention, time from delay to real-time,and field from reality to virtuality. With the help of Stigler's"Tertiary Retention"theory,it is possible to better understand that although virtual digital humans may give humans the possibility of enhanced memory and immortality, they also cause the loss of human knowledge and weakened thinking, memory overload and cognitive burden, and ethical issues and self-loss of memory. While paying attention to the construction of human memory by virtual digital humans,it is also necessary to be vigilant against the control of digital"third preservation"on human spirit and consciousness, explore learning modes in the metaverse, balance digital forgetfulness and digital memory, and build ethical mechanisms for digital memory to truly achieve harmonious coexistence between technology and human beings.
