The creativity and imagination of artificial intelligence

Abstract：The creative problem of artificial intelligence(AI)can be divided into three sub questions:(1)Does AI have creativity?(2)What is the essence of creativity in AI?(3)If AI is creative,how did it come about?The answer to question(1)is affirmative.The answer to question(2)is attributed to creative science and Margaret Boden's research.Borden also divided the creativity of AI into three categories:combinational,exploratory,and transformative.The creativity of generative artificial intelligence(GAI)belongs to the combinational and the partially exploratory categories,and is only a manifestation of weak AI.Boden suggests abandoning transformational thinking,but the article opposes Boden's judgment that the condition for achieving strong AI lies precisely in transformational thinking.The possible approach to answer question(3)is that AI's creative explanation relies on the explanation of human creativity.Dustin Stokes'cognitive manipulation thesis points out that creative thinking requires cognitive manipulation,and imagination is the best candidate for the role of cognitive manipulation.The research on AI's creativity should be focused on"imagination".If AI can expand the space of counterfactual imagination,then achieving strong AI is feasible by means of transformational creativity.
