The Road and Cultural Change of Yao Village---taking the Yao village of Nangang and Youling in Liannan of Guangdong province as an example

Abstract：In recent years, the research on the road has been developed and the term of “Roadology” emerges. The road is not only a geographical landscape, but also a complex symbol system, carrying multiple functions. Based on the fieldwork in the Yao village of Nangang and Youling in Liannan of Guangdong province, the paper analyzes the 4 aspects: the memory of the road, the interaction around the road, road’s economics, and the role of road in cultural changes. The paper insists that in the early cultural changes of ethnic groups the road plays a role of pioneer, but in the later, the road works as a bond.
