The Development and Ethical Foundation of Corporate Environmental Responsibility in Western Countries

Abstract:The historical background and developmental history of the conception and execution of corporate environmental responsibility have originated from the development of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and then experienced institutional practice in western countries. The article explores theoretical foundation for corporate environmental responsibility by use of the theories of environmental coordination, environmental justice and the ethics of responsibility, indicating that they have persuasively demonstrated why we should be responsible for the nature, human beings and their offspring, and therefore laid a deep and sound foundation;in the meanwhile, that the practice of corporate environmental responsibility also promotes the further development of the whole environmental ethics.
