The Significance of Bayonet Invention to Firepower Military Revolution

Abstract：Born in Europe in the seventeenth century, the bayonet was a kind of cold weapon which invented after the firearms widely used. The invention of bayonet makes up the defect of firepower, and makes the gunners have the ability of self defense. The widely use of bayonet eliminates spears and other cold weapons, which simplifies the constitution of army corps and urges the horizontal type formation to come into being. The bayonet was kept and used in mechanical and information era, because it embodied the extension and supplement to the body ability given by technology, and embodied the transition from cold weapons to firepower.
