LV Xin
Abstract:Yi h as eight pure trigrams, only Kan ( 坎 ) adding a Xi ( 习 ) in front of it. In this regard, the explanations from ancients are quite different. Today’s prevailing version of the Book of Changes always follow the interpretation of Tuan Commentary(《彖传》)-“XiKan means overlapping danger”-omitting Xi and calling Kan straightly. By combing and interpreting the different explanations of Xi on the character XiKan by ancient commentators, this article aims to combine unearthed documents and ancient glosses’ data to demonstrate compositely that why only Kan added a Xi in front of it. The end of this article is regressing to the image“Kan is just the water” to highlight the profound significance of XiKan for people.
