Redefinition of Gold Foil and Overview on the Developing History of Its Technology

Abstract：A clear definition of gold foil is an important premise for the study of it. Not all the gold plating slice is called gold foil, but, with the application of black gold paper, gold hammer-forging technology experiences rapidly developing and becomes a relatively independent industry. In general, gold foil is the outcome of the mass production, and it can be used to decorate image of Buddha, to build components, furniture, clothing and other objects. Large-scale production is the fundamental feature of gold foil in differentiating from other gold plating slice. Gold foil history of technology can be divided into embryonic period, formative period and mature period. Gold foil’s development is closed related to the introduction and development of Buddhism.
