The Comparative Research on American Affirmative Action and Preferential Minority-Treatment Policy in China--The Enlightenment on the Reform of Ethnic Policy in China

Abstract:The developing history and policy contents are similar when we compare American affirmative action and China preferential minority-treatment policy. Since founding of the nation, preferential minority-treatment policy plays a key role in the course of China’s ethnic policies. But the difference is that America’s affirmative action began to gradually fade over the past decades, accompanying with adjustment and amendment, and even has been cancelled in some states. The implementation of China’s ethnic policies also faced many problems, but as a whole, the pace of adjustment has been relatively slow. By comparing America’s affirmative action and China’s preferential minority-treatment policy, it put forwards that there are regular features in dealing with similar issues between both countries, and this will provide enlightenments for the reform of China’s ethnic policies.
