On the Compatibility between the Human Being & Water Developed by Dai People:Poetic Wisdom or Ecological Wisdom

Abstract:Dai People, as ethnic minority living in Yunnan generation after generation, revered water as a gift from the heaven. For them, water doesn’t only play an important part in their production and living, but also appear in every course of the life rites. In Water Splashing Festival, Dai people expresses their best wishes towards best harvest; the rite of the dripping water is an essential part of Dan, which means consecrating to the God. In such circumstance, Dai people form the ecological wisdom of “we have no water without forest; we have no farming land without water; we have no food without farmland; and at last we can’t live without food.”This wisdom can be found in the fairy tale, the rituals, the festivals and their daily life. In the article, after sorting out the perception and cognition towards water, the writers conclude that the Dai People has formed compatibility between Dai People and water.
