On the Tragic Character of Aeschylos’ Orestes
MO Yun-ping
Abstract:Aeschylos’ trilogy, Orestes, is a tragedy developed in the heroic era during which humans are different from the deities. The plot of Clytaemnestra’s murdering her husband in Agamemnon is quite different from the plot of Orestes’s matricide in Choephri, and this difference is not revealed until Eumenides. Even though there is a reconciliation in the end of the Trilogy, it still revealed the tragedy of human being’s existence.
