Why Laozi Puts Forward:Treasure of the Country Can’t be Shown to the People
WU Jin-xiong
Abstract:“Treasure of the country can’t be shown to the people”is appeared in the thirty-sixth chapter of the Laozi. It was a politics term in many scholars’ mind. But as summarized in this article, there is no politics discussion in the whole chapter. The terms of the“wei ming”,“soft is better than tough”and“country treasure”are frequently shown in other chapters as a philosophy of Laozi rather than politics. Laozi asserts “no material”, “no desire” and “no action”in a natural way. As the concluding sentence in chapter thirty-six,“Treasure of the country can’t be shown to the people”is a summary of Laozi philosophy factors, which can be applied to practical use in country governance.
