The Bi-direction in Expressing Attribute Volume Level by Ordi nals

Abstract：The combination of morphemes of attribute values and attribute domain constitutes the mecha-nism to generate prototypical attributive words .To express the attribute volume level by ordinals is bi-directional :by rising ordinals ,the bigger the number is ,the higher the volume level is ,while by falling ordinals ,the bigger the number is ,the lower the volume level is .This kind of bi-direction often brings with ambiguity and misunderstanding in communication .The bi-direction existing in the expression of volume level by ordinals originates from the neuter flavor of numerals .The smallest positive integral number “一” plays an incomparably important role in the Chinese culture .It is natural to express big volume level by “一” ,and to express big volume level by falling order is a preferential doctrine in the Chinese Culture .
