The revival of Foshan Zumiao Temple Fair
Abstract：Foshan Zumiao Temple fair is the largest-ever comprehensive temple fair, which happened in the most prosperous period in the Ming and Qing Dynasties but discontinued in the period of the Republic of China. In 2005, because of the change of national poliey, the development of social economy, the drive of the domestic and foreign intangible cultural heritage protection, most fundamental, the ingrained belief of North God in the mind of Foshan people, Zumiao temple fair finally returned to Foshan human life. The revived temple fair not only inherited the traditional connotation, but also infused new culture atmosphere, forming a new ritual content and charaeteristies. Although the revival of the Zumiao temple fair still has obvious religious overtones, its culture and folk characteristics have been obviously strengthened. As usual, the revived Zumiao temple fair will continue to play an important role in the social culture of Foshan.
