On the Standard of Evolution from the Horizon of Complexity
Abstract:The standard of evolution is vague all the time, and generally speaking, complexity and adapta- bility are the main measures. But inevitable contradictions and conflicts between these two standards still exist, which leads many people to regard evolution as progress. George Williams refutes this view from the following five areas, the accumulation of genetic information, the increase in morphological complexity, the increasing differentiation of physiological function, the direction of certain provisions of the evolution of any trend, and increasing effectiveness of adaptation. Evolution should be put into the system to understand and highlight the importance of the real time in evolution. Evolution is not a cumulative progress, but a changing way in information processing.
