Creation of New Germplasm with High Resistance and High Yield by Using the Conventional High-quality Rice Huanghuazhan

Abstract：Huanghuazhan is a a widely adaptable fragrant rice(indica rice)conventional rice variety from southern China,which has the characteristics of high yield and high quality.Since it was bred by Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2006,it has been widely planted in the provinces(regions)such as Zhejiang,Guangdong,central and southern Guangxi,and hilly regions in Hunan.The production practice showed that Huanghuazhan had poor resistance to rice blast,and there were some production hidden dangers when it was planted in the areas where diseases occurred seriously.In order to utilize the innovative germplasm of Huanghuazhan,it was used as the breeding parent to hybridize with 9 high-yield and high-resistance hybrid rice varieties which were mainly promoted on the market.Then,through the conventional breeding and resistance screening methods,twenty-one materials with high yield,good resistance and improved chalkiness degree were screened out,which could be used as the high-quality germplasm for the early-mature rice and middle-season rice planting in Fujian Province.
