Changes in blood lipid and superoxide dismutase before and after treatment of Chinese drugs in patients with diabetic nephrosis
Abstract:Objective To observe the curative effect of Chinese drugs forreinforcing the kidney and promoting blood circulation (RKPBC) on senile diabetic nephrosis (SDN). Methods Sixty-eight cases of SDN were divided into treatment group and control group, 34 patients in treatment group took Chinese drugs for RKPBC and hypoglycemic agent, 34 in control group only took the same hypoglycemic agent. Then changes of blood lipid, serum lipid peroxidatio(LPO), superoxide dismutase(SOD)and 24-hour quantity of uric protein were compared between the two groups. Results The serum SOD level in SDN patients was lower than that in healthy subjects (P<0.05), but the serum levels of blood lipid, LPO and 24-hour quantity of uric protein were higher in SDN patients than in healthy subjects. After four-week treatment, the serum level of SOD rose obviously (P<0.05). The serum levels of blood lipid, LPO and 24-hour quantity of uric protein decreased obviously(P<0.01) in treatment group. There were significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusions SDN patients are apt to get presenile and deficient in kidney, whereas presenility and deficiency are due to lipid peroxide damage caused by oxygen free radical. Chinese drugs for RKPBC can increase the activity of SOD to antagonize peroxide-induced damage, and therefore can treat the weakness of kidney and delay senility.
