Therapeutic effects of stereotactic conformal radiotherapy in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract:Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of stereotacticconformal radiotherapy (SCRT) on advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Methods Changes of tumor mass diameter (TMD),serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels, WBC count and hepatic function in patients with advanced HCC after SCRT or transcatheter hepatic arterial embolization(TAE) were analyzed. Twenty-one patients underwent SCRT(group A),among whom 13 had Child A liver function and 8 had Child B grade. Two patients had MTD<5 cm and 3 patient with TMD>10 cm. Results The average MTD reduction and reduction rates of MTD, AFP, WBC count and liver function in group A were(2.58±1.80) cm, 66.67%,86.6%,19.05% and 9.52%, respectively. Those in group B were (1.20±0.68) cm,30%, 43.75%,50% and 60%, respectively. There was significant difference between group A and B. Conclusion SCRT is a satisfactory alternative with low incidence of side-effect for HCC that can not afford conventional surgery.
