Abstract：Rice is the most important food crop in China. The molecular genetic research on rice leaf color mutation is of great significance for understanding the photosynthesis of higher plants, especially the molecular mechanisms of chlorophyll biosynthesis and degradation pathways, and for improving rice biomass. This paper illustrates the concept and classification of rice leaf color mutation, reviews research progress on the cloning and functional analysis of rice leaf color mutation genes, and also envisions their application to rice breeding. The molecular genetic mechanisms of rice leaf color mutation genesare also discussed in order to utilize them for rice breeding. This paper provides a theoretical basis for identifying rice germplasm resources with high-yielding potential.
