Reliability verification and improvement of PEMFC power system

Abstract:With the popularity of fuel cell commercial vehicles, ensuring the stability and durability of their fuel cell systems has become increasingly crucial. The team conducted 8 600 start-stop cycle tests and over 2 000 hours of durability testing on the FY06-S80 system. The test results indicate that under appropriate operating conditions, frequent start-stop does not significantly affect the performance of the fuel cell stack. But prolonged variable operating condition testing can lead to thinning and cracking of the catalytic layer in the cathode air inlet area of the membrane electrode, along with reduced hydrophobicity of the membrane electrode assembly.Additionally,corrosion-induced resistance increases were observed at identical positions on the bipolar plates.Based on these preliminary findings, subsequent validation tests were adjusted to include reduced air inlet humidity and stack temperature, with operational time parameters calibrated accordingly.
