Abstract:Cobalt tetraoxide(Co3O4)is a key raw material for lithium cobalt oxide(LiCoO2),an anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The aim of this study is to reduce the sulfur content(mass fraction)in cobalt tetraoxide by optimizing the washing and desulfurization process in order to improve the battery performance.Through the experimental study, the washing and desulfurization effects of pure water, ammonium bicarbonate solution and sodium hydroxide solution were investigated, and the optimal process conditions for washing with the three kinds of washing liquids were determined.Under these conditions, the sulfur content of tricobalt tetraoxide could be controlled within 2×10-4,1×10-4 and 1×10-5 respectively, and would not cause the change of the particle size distribution and the microscopic morphology.
