Abstract:In order to vertify the thermal insulation effect of vacuum shell used in thermal battery, the same thermal battery stack were assembled with stainless steel double-walled vacuum shell and stainless steel shell with glass fiber insulation structure respectively, which were activated at a current density of 60 mA/cm2,and then the electrical properties and surface temperature of the shell were tested. The results showed that the average working time of vacuum shell at high, low and normal temperature was 624 s longer than that of the thermal battery assembled by ordinary shell insulation, and output energy increased by 45%.The maximum temperature on the side surface of the shell decreased from 221℃to 140℃,and the timing of the maximum temperature delayed from 315 s to 540 s,indicating that the vacuum shell has high insulation effect when uesd in thermal battery. This conclusion is expected to provide a reference for the design and development of long life thermal batteries.
