Abstract:Sodium-ion batteries represent a promising new electrochemical energy storage technology with broad application prospects. This paper focuses on the application of petroleum asphalt-based hard carbon in sodium-ion batteries anode.Firstly,it introduces the background of this material's growing attention due to its wide availability and low cost, followed by a statistical analysis of research trends from 2010 to 2024 through examining the number of academic papers and patent applications. The paper then elaborates on mainstream technical approaches including process flow, raw material pretreatment, carbonization reaction, and improvement methods. However, challenges remain in raw materials sourcing, carbonization processes,structural-property balance, and large-scale production.Currently, the research primarily concentrates on precursors, asphalt conversion, and carbonization techniques.Continuous advancements in preparation processes and deeper understanding of material structure-property relationships are driving progress.Petroleum asphalt-based hard carbon anode materials is expected to achieve industrial application in sodium-ion batteries and broader energy storage field.
