Abstract:The power battery pack is installed at the bottom of the electric vehicle, and the ground clearance is usually only a dozen centimeters. The bottom is easy to bump and cause the battery pack to catch fire.In order to balance the requirements of lightweight and protective performance, several new materials such as polyphthalimide(PPA),amide-fiber and foamed aluminum plate are selected for research. The material was tested by sheet level extrusion, and the simulation model wes modified according to the test results to obtain the mechanical parameters. The bottom ball strike test of the whole package was carried out to obtain the cell intrusion amount and deformation mode of different materials. The simulation and test results show that the 8 mm PPA composite material(8 mm thick)has the smallest cell intrusion and less weight, which met the performance requirements. This research provided a reference for the bottom protection design of the battery pack and had engineering reference significance.
