Temperature research on Li-ion battery used for electric bicycles

Abstract：Temperature is an important factor to lithium-ion battery.The temperature change of the surface of the characteristic cells and the core component M OSFET of the protection device during charging and discharging test at different current and temperature were researched by using 18650 type nickel-cobalt-manganese Li-ion battery for electric bicycles.The results demon-strated that the temperature differences between the surface of the characteristic cells and the core components of the protection device were small when Li-ion battery for electric bicycles was used at normal current.However,if the discharge current was increased to the limitation,the temper-ature of core component of the protection device was significantly increased which exceeded nor-mal operating temperature of Li-ion cells.Thus,Auxiliary heat abstractor needed to be added to the battery to improve the safety.
