The Impact of Serum Klotho and Interferon Regulatory Factor 1 on Lower Extremity Arterial Atherosclerosis in Elderly Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between changes in serum Klotho and interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF-1) expression and lower extremity arterial atherosclerosis (LEAD) in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods A total of 180 T2DM patients admitted to Suqian Hospital, Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital from October 2020 to October 2022 were selected. There were 112 males and 68 females, with an average age of (67.02±5.87) years, ranging from 60 to 78 years. According to the ankle-brachial index, the patients were divided into a routine group (n=90) and a LEAD group (n=90). Serum levels of Klotho and IRF-1 were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and clinical data were collected. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors for the development of LEAD in T2DM patients. Results Logistic regression analysis showed that elevated fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c, triglycerides, and IRF-1 were independent risk factors for the development of LEAD in T2DM patients, while increased serum Klotho was a protective factor against the development of LEAD in T2DM patients. Conclusion The serum level of Klotho was decreased, and the level of IRF-1 was increased in T2DM patients with LEAD. The combination of the two had certain diagnostic value for the occurrence of LEAD in T2DM patients.
