Effects of butylphthalide combined with edaravone on neurological function,carotid intima-media thickness,and plaque area in elderly patients with cerebral infarction

Abstract：Objective To study the effects of butylphthalide combined with edaravone on neurological function,carotid intima-media thickness,and plaque area in elderly patients with cerebral infarction.Methods A total of 126 patients with acute cerebral infarction treated in our hospital from September 2021 to September 2022 were enrolled,and randomly divided into conventional group(n =66)and combined group(n =60).Both groups received the routine treatment,based on this,combined group received the butylphthalide combined with edaravone,while conventional group only received the edaravone.Then the clinical efficacy,National Institute of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS),modified Rankin Scale(mRS),Barthel Index(BI),carotid intima-media thickness(CIMT),and intimal plaque area were compared between groups.Results After treatment,NIHSS scores and mRS Scores in the combined group were lower than those in the conventional group and before treatment.NIHSS scores and mRS Scores in the conventional group were lower than those before treatment,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,BI index of both groups was higher than that before treatment,and BI index of combination group was higher than that of conventional group,the difference was statistically sig-nificant(P<0.05).After treatment,the total effective rate of the combined group was higher than that of the conventional group,and the CIMT and plaque area of the combined group were lower than those of the conventional group and before treatment(P<0.05),with statistical significance(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Application of routine treatment in combination with butylphthalide and edaravone for elderly pa-tients with acute cerebral infarction can effectively reduce the CIMT,alleviate the atherosclerosis degree,improve the blood supply of brain tissue,and restore the neurological function.
