Common complications of acetabular fractures

Abstract:Objective To investigate the causes of common complications in acetabular fracturesand analyze measures of prevention in the early and late stage after trauma.Methods A retrospective study was performed on 89 patients who were identifiedwith acetabularfracture from January 2013 to June 2016.Patients underwent open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF).According to the diagnostic and therapeutic process,the complications in early and late stages were analyzed.Results The 68 patients received follow up.Early complications included internal fixator cutting out during operaiontime,incision fat liquefaction,sciatic nerve injury and deep venous thrombosis;late complications included traumatic arthritis,avascular necrosis of the femoral head and heterotopic ossification.The quality of reduction was excellent as anatomical in 44 patients,good in 17,fair in 5,poor in 2 by Matta score system,and the good to excellent rate was 89.7%.Conclusion For acetabularfractures,operation is still a primary procedure.Doctors should attach importance to pre-hospital care,damagecontrol,and select appropriate approach and operation opportunity according to fracture types.Good therapeutic effect is due to the quality of the reset of superficial joint and operation techniques improving.The key points of preventing complications are early effectively reasonable rehabilitation and prevented methods.
